Are you celebrating St. Patrick's today? I'm always up for a bit of green and love people watching.  Isn't this an adorable little shamrock wreath?  It's from Brittany of The House that Lars Built (she shared how she made it on her blog this week).  And if you're interested in a few more St. Patrick's Day DIY's, I've done a little last minute round-up over at Babble here. DIY: Three Styled Blinds

Contributor Post by Ana Maria

{Today we welcome another new regular contributor to the blog, an LA native living in London, Ana Maria is a flea market fanatic with a knack (and love) for DIY. She shares her vintage finds in her online shop, The Pond Market, and captures her adventures and inspirations on her personal lifestyle blog, Anamu.  Ana Maria is one of our DIY contributors and we're super excited to share her first today!}

Hi, Ana Maria of Anamu here! I'm thrilled to be a new DIY contributor for Poppytalk. Let's get started shall we?

Are any of you stuck with blah window blinds like I am? As a renter you often don't get to pick and choose the primary decor of your home but with these three quick and easy window-dressing ideas you can add your own personality and have some fun.

Because I live in London, and have grown to love the English tradition of bunting, I used remnant fabrics and a single ribbon to create my own festive flags. It was crazy simple. To give a bit of depth to each triangle cut diamond shaped pieces and fold them in half. After stitching each flag onto the ribbon use a large paperclip to create a solid end and then insert it into the bottom opening of the blind (where a rod or stick usually is for weight). Do this on both ends of the ribbon/blind and it will hang on its own!

If bunting isn't your thing then you could try playful trimming with pom poms (also inserted using a paper clip) or a single long ribbon that is fed through the bottom slot and then tied in a bow as shown below.

The bottom opening makes it possible for LOTS of different takes on styling your blinds. I did this in my office/guest room but it could be so fun in a nursery or children's room, too. So how about it, think you'll give it a shot? Have any other dressing ideas to throw into the mix?

Dispatches from Spain: La Eriza

Contributor post by Serena Olivieri

{Today we welcome a new regular contributor to the blog, from Spain, Serena Olivieri. Serena is an Italian girl living in Madrid and is a designer and maker of contemporary handmade works. She will be featuring shops, designers, artists, etc out of  her beautiful home of  Spain! Here's her first post - please help me welcoming her! -Jan }

I was always attracted to this lab-shop from the very first year I came to live here in Madrid. It’s located in a small street in the well known bohemia neighborhood of Malasaña.

La Eriza is a bookbinder lab with a wide exhibition space in the front. It’s the typical place you may want to enter just to take a look at the drawings and illustrations hanging on the yellow/black painted walls or the books in the display cabinets. You soon notice sea urchins everywhere on the shelves: they’re the logo of the shop and give it its name.

It has this feeling of an old wunderkammer; all the objects and paraphernalia in the cabinets are the owner’s personal collection. Óscar Sanchez Lozano is an expert bookbinder and a delicate curator: he constantly organizes solo/collective exhibitions in this space. Young artists, illustrators, as long as there's paper involved and a good project to display, he’s likely to give total freedom to the artists.

I was allowed to take some pictures of the lab in the back of the shop, and here I am, sharing them with you. From book restoration to limited editions to custom cases, as an artisan he covers everything related to bookbinding. Clients usually know Oscar's work and trust it. Oscar admits that his clients are often aware of the high quality of his work and can therefore trust his judgement with their projects.

Isn’t there some kind of magic about this lab? Or possibly, any lab?! There is always a good excuse to stop here and start mulling over every detail and see what’s going on!

Cool Decorating Trick No. 26

Was it really November when I posted my last cool decorating trick?  Seems they're hard to come by, as are owners of images these days it seems with Pinterest and Tumblr.  I love this photo, love it and am so sad I can't find the owner of it - seems it was pinned to Pinterest from this tumblr.  Anyone know who's picture this is?   - thanks to reader Karla - the image is found via Apartment Therapy from The Design Office (in Rhode Island).  Love this decorating idea using a string of lights (and the poster)!

Holding on to memories of Whitney

(Click above for the for video clip)

All at once,
I finally tooka moment and I’m realizing that

You’re notcoming back
And it's finallyhit me all at once

All at once,
I startedcounting teardrops and at least a million fell
My eyes beganto swell
And all mydreams were shattered all at once

Chorus
Ever since Imet you
You’re theonly love I’ve known
And I can’tforget you
Though I mustface it all alone

All at once, I’mdrifting on a lonely sea
Wishing you’dcome back to me
And that’s allthat matters now
All at once, I’mdrifting on a lonely sea
Holding on tomemories
And it hurtsme more than you know
So much more than it shows
All at once

All at once
I looked around and found that you were with another love
In someone else's arms
And all my dreams were shattered all at once

All at once
The smile that used to greet me brightened someone else's day
She took your smile away
And left me with just memories
All at once

Hotel Style - The Saguaro, Palm Springs + Scottsdale

It's been a while since I've done a Hotel Style post. But this one was hard not to notice today on Pinterest. Looks like Joanna Goddard found a rainbow treasure this week and I couldn't pass up adding it to my Hotel Style collection of posts.

On the heels of their successful launch of the Saguaro Scottsdale, Sydell assembled the same team of creative partners to help re-launch this hotel, also named The Saguaro [suh-warh-oh], after the iconic cactus of the Sonoran Desert. The Saguaro [suh-warh-oh] with it's vibrant colour palette inspired by the native flowers of the Colorado Desert is located in Palm Springs and near The Sydell Group's first Palm Springs project, the Ace Hotel.

The Saguaro Scottsdale

A few pics from the equally lovely Saguaro in Scottsdale.  Don't all these colours make you want to just erase the entire palette of your home and redo?  I'm already dreaming of a sherbert-inspired kitchen! I think the trick here is the light pine.  Lots of eye candy to behold.  Check it out below.
